As a United States Army Special Forces First Sergeant, Sompaul Vorapanich has accomplished much in the military while defending freedom and standing strong in the face of battle. Sgt. Vorapanich strives to serve his country with valor and virtue, but his ultimate goal is to serve God.
His zeal for the Lord led him to become a founding member of the St. Michael the Archangel Council of the Knights of Columbus located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. As part of his duties, Sgt. Vorapnich annually leads wounded warriors on a Knights of Columbus-sponsored pilgrimage to Lourdes.
“There are soldiers who have physical ailments, physical wounds that you can see,” Sgt. Vorapnich explained in an interview. “Others have wounds that are invisible to the eye, but they are still scarred mentally and have had traumatic experiences that have led them there. This event is both a spiritual healing, as well as physical and mental, and there’s no place better to do it than Lourdes.”
The Knights, in partnership with the Archdiocese for the Military Services, have been making this trip possible for non-wounded, wounded, ill or injured military personnel since 2013.
