In this throwback episode of Catholic-Link, Fr. Rob discusses in 60 seconds or less the feast of the Assumption. A feast with an important message for all of us. The Feast of the Assumption of Mary is on August 15th. The belief that Mary assumed into Heaven, body and soul, became dogma in the Catholic Church in 1950 by Pope Pius XII. In his Apostolic Constitution Munificentissimus Deus.
In it he wrote, “the revered Mother of God … finally obtained, as the supreme culmination of her privileges, that she should be preserved free from the corruption of the tomb and that, like her own Son, having overcome death, she might be taken up body and soul to the glory of heaven” (MD 40). This is important for all the faithful to know and observe. With Jesus’ Ascension and Mary’s assumption into Heaven, the faithful look forward to their own resurrection of the body in to Heaven on the last day when Christ comes in his glory. There’s a lot to look forward to! God bless! How will you celebrate the Assumption?
