Does The Person You’re In Love With Have These 10 Essential Qualities?

by Love and Relationships, Morals & Values, Vocation

There is no feeling quite like being in love. It’s a time in life when you are truly overwhelmed with joy, happiness, and exuberance. Life feels fresh and exciting. You spend time daydreaming and planning about the future life you and the one you love will share together.

But, as we all know, sometimes those feelings that sweep us off our feet are the same feelings that keep us from realistically seeing our relationship as it truly is. Our normally clear way of thinking becomes clouded with the emotions of the moment. What we feel as love might actually be infatuation, preventing us from seeing the true character of the one we are pursuing.

This is one of the reasons that Proverbs 4:23 instructs us to “guard your heart, for in it are the sources of life.” What does it look like to guard your heart?

One way of doing this is to give mature thought to the characteristics you would like in a future spouse. Of course, this means to think a bit deeper than “tall with brown and hair and blue eyes.” Think and pray about the characteristics that are truly important in a marriage and make a commitment to yourself that you will not compromise on those things.

To help you get started, we have some suggestions on what qualities to look for in a man or woman of God.
